The tumblers people actually keep, tracked by price
Every tumbler on the wall now claims double-wall vacuum insulation, and it is true of all of them. Insulation stopped being a differentiator years ago. What separates the cups people keep from the ones that end up at the back of the cabinet is the lid: does it leak in a bag, does it come apart to clean, and does the straw taste like plastic after a week.
I have strong opinions here, so let me be direct.
The one I recommend to everyone
Stanley The Quencher H2.0 Fluted Tumbler
3 stores · read Sep 12Yes, the Quencher. It is popular for a reason: the handle, the cupholder base and the three-position lid are a genuinely good design. Two honest caveats. It is not leakproof, so it lives on a desk or in a cupholder, never in a bag. And the price swings wildly between stores and colours. We have seen a fifteen dollar spread on the same 40 oz in the same week. Check the rows above before you buy anywhere.
The one that fixes the Quencher's problem
Stanley IceFlow Flip Straw 30 oz TumblerStanley$40.00
Stanley's IceFlow with the flip straw is the cup for people who threw a Quencher in a tote bag once. The straw folds down and seals, the handle is still there, and it still fits a cupholder. If you commute, buy this one.
The travel-mug answer
YETI Rambler 26 oz Bottle with Straw Cap
5 stores · read Sep 12YETI's Rambler with the straw cap is what I would buy for a car that gets hot. The DuraCoat finish does not chip, the lid parts are dishwasher-safe, and YETI sells every gasket separately, which is the quiet reason these last a decade. It costs more than the Stanley and I think the extra is justified.
The budget pick that isn't embarrassing
Magellan Outdoors 30oz Americana Throwback TumblerMagellan Outdoors$14.99
The house-brand 30 oz is a straightforward copy of the Quencher shape at a third of the price. The lid is the compromise: fewer positions, and I would not trust it on its side. As a second cup for the office it is fine.
The one with the party trick
BruMate Era Tumbler with Straw and Side Handle 20 oz.BruMate$19.97 $34.99
BruMate's Era has a lid that closes fully and a handle that folds, which makes it the rare handled tumbler you can pack. It is my pick for anyone who wants one cup for coffee, water and the occasional beer.
What I'd skip
Anything with a slide lid and no gasket. Anything sold in a two-pack. And any tumbler whose lid you cannot buy on its own, because you will lose it.
When to buy
Tumblers are impulse items and the retailers know it, so the big brands rarely discount at their own stores. The deals come from department stores and big boxes clearing colours. Our price rows show that spread; when a colour you like is ten dollars under the others, that is the day.
